Born in Tulkarem on 8 March 1955; holds a BSc in Chemistry from Birzeit University (1976), an MSc and PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati, Ohio (1979 and 1981); was a research assistant at the University of Cincinnati from 1978-79; worked at Birzeit University in several positions (teaching assistant, dormitory counselor and supervisor, laboratory instructor, Assistant Professor, and head of the Chemistry Dept.) from 1975-1993; was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Cincinnati in 1993-94; Director of the UN Women’s College in Ramallah since 1994; Visiting Research Professor at the University of Bonn in Aug.-Oct. 1995; has served as Board of Trustees member at the Palestinian Academic Network (1993-99) and at Al-Bireh Public Library (1997-99); Advisory Council member of the Palestinian Curriculum Development Center (1994-96); Advisory Board member of the Welfare Association (1998-2000); Steering Committee member of the Technical, Entrepreneurial, Vocational Education and Training (TEVET), Palestine (since 2003); Board member of the Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission of the PA Ministry of Higher Education (since 2003), of the Quality Improvement Fund (QIF) for Tertiary Education in Palestine (since 2004), and the Higher Council for Vocational and Technical Education (since 2004); has (co-)authored several studies and researches related to chemistry, gender and education issues, with an emphasis on Palestinian women in education.
