Born in Tel ‘Arad on 25 Dec. 1960; holds a BA in Law from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; became member, then Deputy Chairman of the Arab Democratic Party, as whose candidate he was voted into the Knesset in 1992; was elected MK for Mada-Ra`am (a coalition of the Arab Democratic Party and the United Arab List) in the 1996 elections as well as for the United Arab List (UAL) in the 1999 and 2003 elections; was re-elected to the 17th Knesset in March 2006, where is a member in the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee, the State Control Committee, the Anti-Drug Abuse Committee, and the Foreign Affairs & Defense Committee as well as for the Jerusalem and the Social-Environmental Lobbies; also serves as Chairman of the Ra’am-Ta’al parliamentary group (the united list of the UAL and the Arab Movement for Renewal, which ran together in the 2006 elections).
