Born in Jaljulia in the Arab Triangle on 21 April 1954; studied Political Science (BA) and Islamic Culture (MA) at Bar Ilan University; member in the Jaljulia Local Council (1989-96); was a member of the southern faction of the Islamic Movement and a Knesset member for the United Arab List from 1996-2003; left both the Islamic Movement and the UAL, after internal differences, in 2003, and formed the Al-Islah (‘Reform’) Party.
