Born in Jerusalem on 4 Dec. 1926; received his elementary and secondary education at Ar-Rashidiyyeh School in Jerusalem (matriculation certificate in 1944); moved to Lebanon to study Medicine; received a MD from the AUB in 1951; specialized in General Surgery in the US with a certification by the American Board of Surgery in 1958; returned to Jerusalem in 1958; worked with the (Jordanian) Ministry of Health in Hebron, Irbid and Jerusalem; obtained a fellowship of the American College of Surgeons in 1960, becoming the first in the West Bank to be so certified; became a Board member of Al-Maqassed Society and helped establishing Al-Maqassed Hospital in 1967; was seconded by the Ministry of Health to become its Director and head of Surgery between 1970-77; was also seconded to run the Arab College of Medical Professions in 1981, which was later joined with three other colleges in Jerusalem to form Al-Quds University; became Vice-Pres. of the University until his retirement in 2002; Board member of Al-Yateem Al-Arabi and Dar Al-Awlad schools in Jerusalem; served as Chairman of the Board of the Arab Medical Welfare Association (AMWA) in Ramallah until 2004.
